Fort Edmonton was established by the Hudson's Bay Company on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River in 1795. By 1821 The Hudson's Bay Company and the North West Trading Company Joined and the Fort Flourished until the late 1860's. The Fort's decline was a result of the Hudson's Bay Company surrendering Rupart's Land. Clifford E. Lee Nature Sanctuary is a fantastic place to escape the city and seek a little wild for the whole family. The Park is situated  approximately 30 km southwest of Edmonton City Centre and just North of Devon. From Highway 60 take Township Road 512A West to Range Road 264 North the Parking lot will be on your left. The parking lot is not very big and fills up fast.  The Sanctuary protects 348 Acers of wildland, marsh, aspen parkland and meadows with beautiful wildflowers to look at. St. Luke School is located in South Cooking Lake and it has a fantastic park located behind the school with lots of field space to enjoy a sunny afternoon. The school is located 22139 S Cooking Lake road, Sherwood Park. The park has a large tower with a tube slide and viewing windows. It also has a few smaller slides and some climbing structures with natural looking logs in the large sandbox. David Thompson Resort is located on Highway 11 the David Thompson Highway about half way down Abraham Lake before Rockies Heli Canada if travelling from Nordegg. If travelling from the Icefields Parkway it will be after Coral Creek/White Goat staging area and Rockies Heli Canada. There is a large parking lot and gas station located right In front of the park and you can see it from the highway.  This playground is open to the Public so anyone is welcome.
