William A. Switzer Provincial Park, Alberta

William A. Switzer Provincial Park is a little hidden gem located in the foothills of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. It's where the prairies turn to majestic mountain tops and the rivers run fierce while the wildlife moves throughout the valley and the surrounding blue lakes. It's a place you go to listen the sounds of wildlife and enjoy a breath of fresh air.

William A. Switzer PP is located on the Bighorn Highway 40 North towards Grand Cache, Alberta. The Park is a total of 93 square kilometers and consists of Jarvis creek connecting, Jarvis Lake, Cache Lake, Blue Lake, Graveyard Lake and Gregg Lake. There is two group campgrounds and five others. The Main campground at Gregg  Lake consists of over 100 sites and can get busy but is a great place for families as this is where the amphitheater and day activities happen. Gregg Lake is a Paddle only lake. Cache Lake campground is small with 12 sites and a playground. Graveyard Lake and Halfway campground are kind of overflow but first come first served and great for small groups. The last campground is Jarvis lake which is a fair size around 26 sites but close together. This campground has great access to the lake and a swimming area. Jarvis lake does allow power boats but is also a beautiful lake to paddle.

We stayed at the quiet cache lake campground which was a great for us with a toddler. We hiked down the gravel road to Graveyard campground and explored the trails around graveyard lake and the beaver damns. We also made a stopover at Kelly's Bathtub day use area which was a nice 1.5 km walk around a lake. This Park is beautiful and there is so many hiking trails and paddling opportunities that there was just to much to conquer in one weekend. We will be back in the near future!
