Telford Lake | City of Leduc
Telford lake is located in the City of Leduc in Alberta, Canada. The lake is very shallow with an average depth of 1.5 m and is approximately 3 Km long posing as an important environmental feature for the City of Leduc. There is a paved Multiway that will lead you around the entire lake, through aquatic habitats, forests, beautiful boardwalks and prairie landscapes. The trail is about 8.5 Km long however there are several other trails to explore around the lake and surrounding parks. Visit the Telford House on the West side and take a walk on the boardwalk over the water. This is a perfect spot to come and view the ducks and other wildlife.
The North Side of the lake is rustic with some dirt paths and a mountain bikers paradise. Off the paved trail you will find several dirt and grass paths the wind through the forest. Take some time to explore search for Geocaches enjoy some birdwatching and check out the view points along the way. We came across a cute trail called Viv's trail with birdhouses and teepees along the way. There is a parking lot you can access off 43St and 56Ave with public washrooms. (Lions park) This is located right on the North Side and makes easy access to the Rustic Trails.
The South side connects to William F. Lede park where there is a playground and soccer fields, baseball diamonds and so much more. This place really does have a lot to do and something for everyone of all ages.
On the South side of the lake you can visit the Leduc Boat Club this is where the boat launch is located with an adjacent parking lot. This lot does fill up fast on nice summer days so you may have to park behind the boat house at the Stone barn and Rugby Club. Behind the Boat club you will find the homestead of Robert Telford who bought the land in 1889. This historical spot still has the milk house the barn structure and a beautiful garden to stroll through in the summer months. This is a beautiful spot and would make some great Instagram Photo's.
In the summer Telford lake is used for all paddle sports (canoe, kayak, SUP) and the Edmonton Dragon Boat races. You can rent canoes, kayaks and SUP at the boat house; check website for details. The Boat house and launch are located north of 44St and 44Ave intersection on the south side of lake.
Once in the water go any explore the West end as there are is a lot of bird, ducks, geese and even pelicans hanging out. If you have time the lake is 3 km head East and enjoy the views along the sides of the lake. The far East in is so peaceful with beautiful prairie landscapes and even more wildlife to view.
TIP: Because the lake is so shallow the weeds can take over; early season paddles are best on this lake. Also it can get windy so we find early morning or evenings are best.
