John Janzen Nature Centre | YEG

Are you looking for something fun and different to do with your little ones in the Edmonton Region? Check out the John Janzen Nature Centre located beside Fort Edmonton Park. This City owned attraction is cheep and fun for children under 10 years. I suppose older children can check out the trails, compost school and display room however the Tegler Discovery Zone is for children under 10 years of age.
The Tegler Discovery Zone (Ages 10 and Under) is truly the highlight of the trip for the kids. A Nature inspired play area where they can learn, play and discover! There is an active Bee Hive along with information on everything you need to know about honey bees.
There is a massive mushroom and cave system complete with stairs to an upper level. A bee hive inspired climbing gym, flower building, beaver cave complete with flowing water and sticks to make a beaver dam, a slide and so much more!
They have a little area with soft blocks and tons of space for the kids to wear off some energy. I have to say with two little ones and only so many hands this is a fantastic place as the facility is not big at all and easy to keep your eyes on your children. I very much enjoyed the Nature Inspired Play and so did my daughters!
The John Janzen Nature Centre opened in 1976 and is Canada's oldest municipally operated nature center. The center offers educational programming, Compost School, a Prairie Pond with trails, Honey Bee Hive and a Exhibit Room. You can book your timed entry online and check out the City of Edmonton Website for information on programs and events offered.
