Muttart Conservatory | Edmonton
If you are looking for something to do in Edmonton; a trip to the Muttart Conservatory is a must! The Muttart Conservatory is an iconic Landmark located in Edmonton's River valley and consists of four Glass Pyramids which are operated by the City of Edmonton. Three pyramids are Climate regulated biomes consisting of Tropical, Arid and Temperate Climates while the fourth pyramid is a Feature display that changes throughout the year. The conservatory houses over seven hundred species of Plants, how cool is that!
The Tropical Pyramid has a diversity of species from Tropical rainforests to evergreen forests and grasslands. Tropical climates are defined by a monthly average temperature of 18 °C (64.4 °F) or higher in the coolest month, and feature hot temperatures all year-round.
It really does not matter if you have visited the Muttart as the plants are constantly changing. We have now visited in November and March and will continue to visit throughout the year.
The Arid Pyramid has Plants spanning from five different continents. These Plants can withstand hot and cold fluctuations, very dry air and soil along with irregular moisture (very low percipitation)
The Temperate Pyramid consists of plants from around North America, Australia and Mountainous regions of Asia. Temperate climates are generally defined as environments with moderate rainfall spread across the year with sporadic drought, mild to warm summers and cold winters.
The above picture was taken in November when we visited the Temperate Pyramid and below was our adventure in March.
The fourth pyramid is the Feature and changes displays throughout the year. We visited during Christmas the first time so it was decorated in lovely Poinsettias and even featured several locations to take beautiful pictures. The second visit was for the lovely Signs of Spring Feature Pyramid; see below for all picture. We loved the spring feature and highly recommend checking it out! Runs from March 4 - April 16, 2023.
And now for the Signs of Spring!
Keep your eyes open and see if you can find the secret fairy garden hidden within the Spring Garden.
Look for the pollinators hidden throughout the pyramid. So much fun with the little ones! Like I said earlier we really enjoyed this Feature.
And I will post one more but I don't want to spoil it for you as there is so much more to see! So Hurry up and go because it wont be here for long.
Ahhhh Spring where are you? We have missed you so much!
We visited during the day to avoid the crowds but if you check out the Muttart website they have adult nights and also a list of the upcoming features.
