Clifford E. Lee Nature Sanctuary | YEG
Clifford E. Lee Nature Sanctuary is a fantastic place to escape the city and seek a little wild for the whole family. The Park is situated approximately 30 km southwest of Edmonton City Centre and just North of Devon. From Highway 60 take Township Road 512A West to Range Road 264 North the Parking lot will be on your left. The parking lot is not very big and fills up fast.
The Sanctuary protects 348 Acers of wildland, marsh, aspen parkland and meadows with beautiful wildflowers to look at. The nature sanctuary is a great place to bird watch and you may even come across a few other wildlife creatures as well. The park is a somewhere you can visit year around as the trails are well used and boardwalks have shovels by them to help yourself. The Sanctuary is run by volunteers and they do an incredible job at maintaining the sanctuary for everyone to enjoy. There are educational signs located throughout the park to educate you on the flora and nature you will come across.
There is outhouses and picnic tables located throughout the park to sit down and have a break or a packed lunch. Just remember not to leave your scraps around or feed the wildlife Human food. One of our favorite places to take a break is at the little bench on the Pine Knoll Loop. This spot is secluded, quite and has a peaceful feeling to it. The Chickadees are so friendly and may even sit on the bench next to you and sing a tune.
There are 4 trails located in the Nature Sanctuary. Boardwalk loop, Aspen Ridge, Pine Knoll and Woodland Flower Trail. They are all short easy trails so it isn't hard to do all of them together. (See trail map below) Each trail is unique so we recommend doing the whole park. The park is dog on leash and stroller friendly; a big wheel jogger stroller is strongly recommended.
